Connect OpenAI Dots to the apps on your Mac

Give your OpenAI dot access to DEVONthink, Obsidian, or NotePlan on your Mac with a Warplet connector.

OpenAI Dots are always-on agents in ChatGPT. Each dot works on its own cloud computer and reaches your apps through the connectors enabled for your account. That cloud computer can't see apps that only run on your Mac, like a DEVONthink database, an Obsidian vault, or NotePlan.

Warplet gives each of those apps a URL you can add to ChatGPT as a connector. Once it's added, your dot can use it.

What you need

  • A Mac running Warplet and the app you want to connect
  • A ChatGPT plan that includes Dots, with Developer Mode for custom connectors

On ChatGPT Pro, custom connectors are read only: your dot can read your notes but can't create or change them. Write access needs a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace.

1. Add your app to Warplet

Follow the guide for your app:

Then copy the app's URL from Warplet under Use these URLs to connect your favorite LLM.

2. Add the connector to ChatGPT

Follow Connect Warplet to ChatGPT with that URL. Turn on Developer Mode, create the connector with OAuth authentication, and paste the Warplet bearer token when the authorization page asks for it.

3. Ask your dot to use it

Message your dot in ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams and name the connector in your request:

Using my Obsidian connector, read the notes in my Projects folder and give me a one-line summary of each, with any open tasks.

Dots also take recurring work. Include a time zone in the schedule:

Every Friday at 4pm Pacific, read the notes in my Obsidian Projects folder through my Obsidian connector and send me a summary of open tasks and anything that looks blocked.

Confirm the schedule when your dot asks. If the connector can change notes, add a custom rule such as "edit or delete a note in Obsidian" set to Ask before taking action.

Keep your Mac on

Your dot runs in the cloud, but Warplet and the app run on your Mac. Requests fail while your Mac is asleep, the app is closed, or Warplet is disconnected, so schedule recurring tasks for when your Mac is on.
